Awards and Honors

We love our time on the ambulance, but here at the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, we have been recognized for the skills we use every day, in competitions around the Commonwealth and even around the globe. But more importantly, we recognize our own members who have gone above and beyond.

VBVRS has competed in: seven International Competitions, winning three 1st Place, two 2nd Place, and two 3rd Place Trophies; 52 State Convention Competitions (300-member VA Volunteer Rescue Squads), awarded 85- 1st Place, 31- 2nd Place, 9- 3rd Place, 12- 4th Place, 5- 5th Place, and 2- 6th Place Trophies in competitions; in 42 years of VA District Competitions, VBVRS held 93- 1st Place, 31- 2nd Place, and 5- 3rd Place trophies; 6 Proclamations for Commendation by the Commonwealth of Virginia General Assembly; 6 Tidewater EMS Council Awards; 22 City of VA Beach EMS Medal of Merit Honorees; 9 Distinguished Service Awards by the VA Beach Volunteer Rescue Foundation, as well as numerous other awards and proclamations.

International Rescue & Emergency Care Association (IRECA)

International Rescue & Emergency Care Association (IRECA) is an organization which hosts
World Volunteer and Government Rescue Squad Competitions. VBVRS has competed in seven
International Competitions and won three 1st Place, two 2nd Place, and two 3rd Place Trophies in
Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support.

Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS)

Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads (VAVRS) host State Competitions of the approximately 300 member Volunteer Rescue Squads. VBVRS competed in 52 State Convention Competitions and won 85- 1st Place, 31- 2nd Place, 9- 3rd Place, 12- 4th Place, 5- 5th Place, and 2- 6th Place Trophies in competitions including categories such as ALS, BLS, Rescue, First Aid, EMT Competition Teams, Equipment, Stretcher Race, Heavy-Duty Rescue Truck, Medium-Duty Truck, Best Crash Truck, Custom Carry-All Van/Ambulance, Best-Appearing Quick Response Support Unit, Best- Appearing Marching Unit, and Best-Appearing Rescue Truck, among others.
